Dismayed by government task force new mammogram guideline advice

At 4o I began annual mammogram screenings as recommended. Several times I had questionable results which required repeat screening at 6 months. I did self breast exams regular thanks to the mammo screenings-they had my instincts on "high alert"
For more than month, a small area in my breast "beeped" I know this sounds weird, but that is the closest I can describe it. It didn't hurt so much as tingled or throbbed, maybe those are better descriptors. I was feeling the area nightly when a panic rushed over me as I felt a very small solid knot. I knew whatever it was it was not supposed to part of my body. I just knew it.
A mammogram showed a spiculated spot. Lumectomy and sentinal surgery confirmed I had 2 types of breast cancer, one very aggressive. It had entered my lymph nodes.
It will be 3 years November 23rd since diagnosis.
Now why I am upset concerning the new recommendations?
1) Had I not been screened yearly as recommended, would I have been performing self breast examinations that found the lump? The answer is NO!
I feel health issues and medical treatment for women are already on the back burner. Let's not take them off the fire altogether.

A personal note for breast cancer awareness month

Unless you live under a shell, you know this is breast cancer awareness month.
Those just diagnosed, in treatment and survivors will tell you breast cancer awareness is every minute of every day of the rest of their lives. I know because I am a survivor!
First heard the words breast cancer on November 7th and from there everything moved in a fury. On November 28, 2006 the words "You have cancer" stopped my world for what seemed to be forever. As the Surgeon explained the 2 types of cancer and the positive lymph nodes found, all I could respond with is "Am I going to die?"
This surgeon, this women not much older than I, was my lifeline back to earth. She cupped the side of my face and looking at me with a sincere passion spoke the words "NO, you are not going to die"
It was at that moment I began my fight. For me, for my daughters, for my grand daughters.
And for you.
I thank all who have joined us in the fight against breast cancer. From my heart I thank you!
